Khosru optimistic on next IMF loan tranche, says many issues already resolved
The minister said it has been decided that unresolved issues with the lender will be addressed through further discussions, with decisions expected after another round of talks in about 15 days.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has expressed optimism about receiving the next tranche of loan under the ongoing IMF programme.
Speaking to Bangladeshi journalists in Washington yesterday (17 April), he said discussions with the IMF will continue, adding that many issues have already been resolved, while a few remain under negotiation.
"We have resolved many issues, and a few are still under discussion. We will try to resolve those through discussions within the next 15 to 20 days. Then we will move forward from there. It is an ongoing process," he said.
The minister said it has been decided that unresolved issues with the lender will be addressed through further discussions, with decisions expected after another round of talks in about 15 days.
"I think everything has been aligned with the BNP's manifesto overall. We will discuss how to implement it," he added.
He reiterated that discussions will not conclude immediately and will continue over time.
Khosru also noted that the IMF and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are interested in working on the challenges in Bangladesh's banking sector.
