IDLC partners with UNICEF to provide health facility to tea garden population

IDLC Finance Limited and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve Maternal, Neonatal Health Rights and Nutrition in the Tea Gardens of Sylhet on Wednesday.

Under this partnership, IDLC will support renovation of the tea gardens' health facility with water and sanitation and hygiene (WASH) block and provide necessary medical equipment's and logistics in seven tea gardens. UNICEF will ensure capacity building of the tea garden health service providers with necessary training in order to connect the tea gardens' health facilities with the government system for better services and sustainability.

Approximately over 7,000 women and 3,000 under five children and 5,000 adolescents will be benefitted through this initiative. Moreover, 40,000 population will increase awareness on maternal, neonatal mortality and nutrition issues to help to act in favor of saving new-born lives.

Tomoo Hozumi, Country Representative of UNICEF in Bangladesh said, Partnerships like this one will help reimagine how socially responsible private sector entities can contribute to the establishment of a better society for all children no matter where they are born and raised. 

"Without healthy and well-educated children, it is not possible to envisage sustainable development in any society be it economic or social.  The private sector has a critical role to play in this regard together with the government and other actors in the society", Tomoo Hozumi added.
