Govt approves short-term LNG purchase from Singaporean company

The government today (12 November) approved, in principle, a proposal to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd on a short-term basis under a Government-to-Government (G2G) arrangement.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Economic Affairs at the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat, with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presiding.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division submitted the proposal, which aims to process short-term LNG procurement under Section 68 of the Public Procurement Act 2006 and the relevant provisions of the Public Procurement Rules 2025.
The Committee also approved three other proposals in principle, covering key sectors including commerce, ICT, energy, and shipping.
The proposals were submitted by the Ministry of Commerce, ICT Division, Energy and Mineral Resources Division, and the Ministry of Shipping, according to the Cabinet Division.
The Committee endorsed a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce for the release of motor vehicles over five years old, which were previously purchased through auction.
It also recommended policy approval for establishing an e-waste management plant at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, submitted by the ICT Division.
The Committee further approved, in principle, the concession agreement between Chattogram Port Authority and Denmark's APM Terminals BV for the "Establishment and Operation of Laldia Container Terminal at Chittagong Port" under the PPP model.
The project will be executed under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) framework for a total of 48 years, comprising a 33-year main concession period and a 15-year extension.
