Youth rally calls for action against plastic pollution
To raise awareness among young people about environmental protection, the Department of Environment (DoE) organised a youth rally and gathering on "Use of Alternatives to Plastic and Polythene" on Sunday, 23 November 2025, in the Agargaon administrative area as part of Tarunyer Utsab 2025.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator, Mohammad Ejaz, attended the event as chief guest, while DoE Director General, Dr Md Kamruzzaman ndc, presided over the programme. The DNCC administrator inaugurated the rally by flying an eco-friendly kite.
Carrying placards with slogans such as "Say no to polythene, let nature win", "Find green alternatives, stop plastic pollution", and "Avoid polythene, build a clean nation", participants paraded through the Agargaon area.
Representatives from the Department of Youth Development, Department of Jute, Jute Diversification Promotion Centre, SME Foundation, Green Savers, Design by Rubina, ACI Fertilizer, Prism Foundation, and students from St Joseph Higher Secondary School joined the event.
Speakers highlighted the harmful environmental impacts of plastic and polythene and encouraged youth to adopt eco-friendly alternatives such as jute and cloth bags, paper packaging, bamboo and cane products, and composting organic waste.
The DoE announced that it will continue educational and awareness programmes nationwide to promote sustainable living and combat plastic and polythene pollution.
