The 28th annual US Trade Show will kick off Thursday (25 October) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, organisers said at a press conference on Tuesday.

More than 40 US businesses operating in the country will showcase their goods and services at the three-day event, jointly arranged by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh and the US embassy in Dhaka.

"It's an opportunity for the US companies to promote themselves. I hope the trade show will help them grow further and strengthen bondings with the country's people," US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D Haas said as he was addressing the press conference at a city hotel.

The USA companies invested in the country's renewable energy, technology, digital economy and many other sectors, he noted and added that more companies are interested to work particularly in the service, infrastructure and agriculture sectors.

"The United States is ready for big direct investment in Bangladesh as it has a large population with the most belonging to the middle-class, and a growing economy," the envoy said.

The trade show, expected to be inaugurated by Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, will remain open between 10am and 8pm until Saturday. The entry fee is set at Tk30 per person. Students, however, will get the privilege of free entry.

The three-day event will also feature five seminars on different topics. On the first day, there will be two seminars – "Logistics for regional connectivity" at 3pm and "Intellectual property rights and impact on cross border business" at 4:30pm.

Two others, "Education USA" and "Business/investor Visa", will be held at 3pm and 4:30pm respectively on the second day, while the last day will feature one, "USAID: Support for private sector growth", at 3pm.

"This year's trade show returns to the physical venue, after two virtual editions in the last two years amid the Covid-19 restrictions. The 28th edition is important as the US-Bangladesh bilateral relations have crossed the 50-year milestone." American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh President Syed Ershad Ahmed said.

Taking part at the event, several other office-bearers of the association added that the US Embassy's active participation in the show demonstrates how much committed the USA towards Bangladesh.

The friendly country is continuously supporting Bangladesh in its development journey.
