United International University commemorates July 2024 uprising
United International University (UIU) organised a discussion programme and a 'Dua Mahfil' to commemorate the July 2024 Uprising and honour the memory of Shaheed Irfan Bhuiyan, a student of UIU, and all the martyrs of the July 2024 movement.
The event took place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the UIU campus.
The programme was presided over by Professor A S M Salahuddin, Vice Chancellor (In-charge) of UIU, with Dr Zulfiqur Rahman, Registrar of UIU, delivering the welcome address. Professor Dr Salma Karim, Director of the BBA Program at UIU, and Dr Suman Ahmed, Head of the CSE Department at UIU, also spoke at the event. Mr Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, the father of Shaheed Irfan Bhuiyan, delivered a heartfelt speech on behalf of the martyred family.
The speakers highlighted the significance of the July uprising as a pivotal moment in Bangladesh's struggle for justice and democracy. They urged future generations to continue defending people's rights and democratic ideals. A video documentary commemorating the July 2024 uprising was screened during the programme.
Following the discussion, a Dua Mahfil was held to pray for the souls of the martyrs, including Irfan Bhuiyan, and to ask for the forgiveness of their souls and the speedy recovery of the injured from the uprising.
The programme was attended by faculty members, university officials, students, guardians, and other distinguished guests.
