ULAB launches faculty training series on AI in higher education
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh has launched a faculty training series on artificial intelligence in higher education to equip academics with the skills to integrate the technology into teaching, learning, and academic practice.
Organised by the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in collaboration with the Office of Faculty Research, the series was launched at the ULAB campus on 18 June.
Vice Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, inaugurated the programme, which drew participation from more than 30 academics.
In his address, Professor Shamsad Mortuza highlighted the need to preserve human agency in an era defined by artificial intelligence.
"We need to keep our human agency alive. We cannot become slaves to artificial intelligence; we have to remain masters of it," he said, urging faculty members to adapt to the rapidly evolving educational landscape.
He further encouraged faculty members to adapt to the rapidly evolving educational landscape.
The first session, titled "Teaching with AI: Pedagogical Shifts, Possibilities, and Challenges in Higher Education", was led by Iram Mehrin, Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Language Studies.

An interactive "Fact vs Myth" Kahoot game introduced participants to key concepts and common misconceptions surrounding AI.
The session also featured demonstrations of generative AI tools, a comparison of Claude and NotebookLM, and practical applications of prompt engineering.
Faculty members engaged in discussions and shared perspectives on the future of AI in education.
The training series will continue over the next three weeks, covering AI-powered educational tools, academic content and media production, learning analytics, intelligent academic ecosystems, research, academic writing, and publication.
