ULAB hosts 11th inter-university student conference on fairy tales and folklore
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has concluded its 11th Inter-University Student Conference and Cultural Competition, exploring the theme 'Fairy Tales and Folklore: Happily N/ever After'.
Held on 23–24 October 2025, the two-day event showcased the creative and academic contributions of students from 25 public and private universities across Bangladesh.
Organised with a grant from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the conference featured Abul Foyez Md Alauddin Khan, Additional Secretary (Admin) of the ministry, as the chief guest at the prize-giving and closing ceremony.
In his address, Khan praised the students for their active participation in creative and cultural activities, noting that they are the future leaders who will shape and bring pride to Bangladesh.
Drawing on his academic background, he commended ULAB for organising events that nurture creativity and cultural engagement. He later presented the winners with crests, certificates, and prize money.
Romana Ruhin Ridi of BRAC University won the Best Paper Award, while Raisa Anan of ULAB received the Runner-up Paper Award.
ULAB's cultural production, 'The Rizzlers of Fairy Tales', won the championship in the cultural competition, and 'What is Beauty and Who is the Beast?' by Shanto Mariam University of Creative Technology was named runner-up.
The research papers were evaluated by Dr Sarkar Hasan Al Zayed, Associate Professor of English and Modern Languages at Independent University, Bangladesh, and Ms Rabita Rahman, Assistant Professor of English at Jahangirnagar University.
The cultural performances were judged by Abdus Selim, Chair of the Department of English Language and Literature at Central Women's University, and Professor Razia Sultana Khan, Adviser to the Department of English and Modern Languages at Independent University, Bangladesh.
