Standard Chartered launches mentorship programme for young scholars

Standard Chartered Bangladesh has launched a mentorship initiative aimed at empowering young women by fostering resilience and leadership. The programme, in collaboration with the Jaago Foundation, commenced with 25 senior female leaders from the bank committing to mentor 25 high-potential undergraduate Jaago Foundation scholars. Over a one-year period, the mentors will guide the scholars on their journey of personal and professional growth.

Bitopi Das Chowdhury, country head of corporate affairs, brand & marketing at Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, "Standard Chartered empowers our colleagues to give back to communities in many ways, including paid volunteering leave. Through this mentorship programme, our senior leaders will volunteer their skills and knowledge to equip young women with the tools they need to rise above challenges and seize their full potential. Standard Chartered remains committed to fostering inclusive opportunities that enable future generations to thrive."

Enamul Huque, sponsor of the Bangladesh D&I Council and head of corporate coverage at Standard Chartered Bangladesh, added, "We are thrilled to launch our new mentorship programme, designed to empower and inspire our mentees. By actively engaging with their mentors, seeking guidance, and embracing new learning opportunities, mentees can unlock their full potential and achieve their professional goals. This programme is a testament to our commitment to fostering growth, collaboration, and success within our community."

Esha Farooq, assistant director of programmes at Jaago Foundation UK, said, "For our scholars, mentorship is more than just career guidance—it is a source of confidence, hope, and inspiration. By connecting these bright young minds with accomplished female leaders, we are creating opportunities for growth that extend far beyond the classroom."

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony was attended by Khairun N Haque, country head of HR at Standard Chartered Bangladesh; Tanvir Morshed Chowdhury, partnership development lead for private sector engagement at Jaago Foundation; and other officials from both organisations.

Through regular interactions, knowledge-sharing, and hands-on guidance, the mentorship programme will help young women build self-confidence, develop leadership skills, and gain valuable career insights. The initiative aligns with Standard Chartered's broader commitment to empowering women and fostering inclusive growth.

As Bangladesh's long-term partner in progress, Standard Chartered has been deeply embedded in the nation's growth story for over 120 years. The bank remains dedicated to championing sustainable growth and resilient communities. Its community initiatives span across environment, agriculture, and health. Its global flagship initiative, Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, is equipping Bangladeshi youth with education, employable skills, and entrepreneurship development.
