Standard Bank board names new vice chairman
Standard Bank PLC has elected Gulzar Ahmed as Vice-Chairman at the 421st meeting of its Board of Directors, held on 7 January 2026.
Gulzar Ahmed, a Director of Standard Bank PLC, also heads the country's renowned jewellery brand, Apan Jewellers. Born in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet district, he assumed responsibility for his family business after completing his education. Under his leadership, the Apan family has established nine jewellery showrooms across various areas of Dhaka.
With over four decades of experience, Gulzar Ahmed is regarded as a prominent business personality, having built his career over 44 years through professionalism, dedication, and ethical business practices.

He served as Acting President of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association for an extended period. He is currently Chairman of Unique Gold Private Limited and First Vice-President of the Bangladesh Jewellery Manufacturers and Exporters Association. He is also a member of the General Body of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
In addition, Gulzar Ahmed is a member of the Executive Council of the Baitul Mukarram Business Group, Chief Adviser of Apanscape, and Adviser to the Gulshan DNCC Market Committee. He previously served as President of the Baitul Mukarram Business Group.
Alongside his professional engagements, he remains actively involved in various socio-cultural organisations, reflecting his commitment to community development and social responsibility.
