Shwapno launches Bangladesh’s first self-checkout counters

Shwapno, the nation's leading and most popular retail chain, has pioneered a transformative shift in Bangladesh's shopping by launching the country's first self-checkout counters in grocery retail.
This breakthrough is driven by an application developed internally by Shwapno's energetic technology team, with support from Sunmi, Mastercard, and EBL, underscoring the company's commitment to innovation and customer convenience.
The service debuted at Gulshan-1 and will gradually expand nationwide. Inauguration: August 20, 2025, 2:00 PM
On August 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM, the inauguration was held at SHWAPNO Gulshan 1, attended by distinguished guests and senior officials. The event welcomed:

With self-checkout counters, shoppers experience a seamless and independent process: scan products, bag items, and pay instantly with contactless cards or digital wallets—no waiting required. Shwapno's in-house team developed the core technology, while partners supported implementation: Mastercard connected Shwapno with Sunmi for advanced checkout devices, and Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) provided secure payment gateway solutions.
To mark the launch, Mastercard will gift customers eco-friendly shopping bags at Gulshan–1 when they transact BDT1000 or more using any Mastercard at the self-checkout kiosk.
