SAC opens book corner at Sylhet Agricultural University
The SAARC Agriculture Centre (SAC) has inaugurated the SAC Book Corner at the Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) Central Library on Saturday, 22 November 2025. The initiative aims to strengthen academic resources and promote regional agricultural knowledge among students, researchers, and faculty members. A discussion session between representatives of SAC and SAU followed the inauguration.
Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of SAU, attended as chief guest. He praised SAC's continued support in enhancing academic capacity across SAARC member states and said the Book Corner would give students access to updated research materials and global agricultural perspectives, helping SAU produce more competent and informed graduates.
Dr Md Harunur Rashid, Director of SAC, highlighted the organisation's commitment to promoting regional cooperation through knowledge sharing. He said SAC would continue to support universities with quality publications, training opportunities, and collaborative research to develop the next generation of skilled agricultural professionals.
Professor Dr A T M Mahbub-E-Elahi, Treasurer of SAU, underscored the importance of research-oriented learning environments and expressed appreciation for SAC's collaboration in expanding academic opportunities.
Professor Dr Mohammad Samiul Ahsan Talucder, Director of Student Counselling and Guidance, said initiatives such as the Book Corner encourage students to strengthen their academic foundation and engage in innovative thinking. He noted that the initiative opens new avenues for SAU experts to contribute to agricultural development across SAARC countries.
The event was chaired by Subir Kumar Paul, Librarian of SAU, who thanked SAC for establishing the Book Corner and reaffirmed the library's commitment to ensuring wider access to academic resources.
Senior officials and academics also attended, including Dr Md Younus Ali, Senior Programme Specialist (Livestock); Dr Sikander Khan Tanveer, Senior Programme Specialist (Crops); and Dr Raza Ullah Khan, Senior Programme Specialist (NRM) from SAC. From SAU, attendees included Professor Dr Shahjahan Mojumder, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Business Studies; Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam, Dean (In-charge) of the Faculty of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences; Professor Dr Muktarun Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology; Professor Dr Mohammad Kawsar Hossain, Convenor of the Provost Council; Professor Dr Md Abdul Aziz, Director of Farms; and Gazi Zahirul Islam, Controller of Examinations (A.C.), along with professors, PhD researchers, and students.
