Robi, WaterAid join hands to expand safe water access at railway stations
Robi Axiata PLC and WaterAid Bangladesh have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance water and environmental sustainability, focusing on expanding access to safe drinking water at major railway stations across the country.
The MoU was signed recently at Robi's corporate office in Dhaka. WaterAid Bangladesh Country Director, Hasin Jahan, and Director of Technical Services, Md Tahmidul Islam, were present at the ceremony. Robi was represented by Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer, Shahed Alam, and Public Affairs and Sustainability Director, Sharif Shah Jamal Raz, alongside senior officials from both organisations.
Under the agreement, the partners will work together to develop and deploy innovative water purification technologies and establish systems for maintenance, management, and real-time monitoring of safe water facilities. The initiative aims to ensure clean drinking water for thousands of daily travellers and surrounding communities that depend on railway stations.
The partnership builds on the "Safe Water, Healthy Life" project, jointly implemented by Robi, WaterAid Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Railway. Ten purification plants have already been installed at key stations, providing safe drinking water to around 452,000 people annually. The new MoU will expand these efforts and support long-term WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) improvements.
Alongside infrastructure development, the collaboration will include research, awareness campaigns, and policy dialogues to strengthen WASH practices nationwide.
