Rajshahi University to hold four-day Model UN conference
Rajshahi University is poised to host the ninth edition of its flagship Model United Nations conference, RUMUN 2026, from 16 to 19 April.
The event will simulate United Nations structures, rules, and diplomatic procedures, offering students a platform for high-level debate and policy-making.
Organisers announced the details at a press conference on Wednesday, 8 April, at the Rabindranath Tagore Academic Building, University of Rajshahi.

RUMUNA advisers, including Professor Sajjadur Rahim, Director of the Office of International Affairs, and Professor Md Atiqul Islam of the Department of Economics, were present, along with alumnus Dewan Badhan, President Shubradev Chakma, General Secretary, and other organisers.
The four-day conference will open at 2pm on 16 April at the university's Senate Building.
The 2026 conference will focus on "Ensuring Economic Accountability through Fair Market Policies and Multilateral Resource Allocation Frameworks in the Context of Global Multipolarity."
Eight committees will be simulated, including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), UN General Assembly Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary), UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), International Press, and the Specialised Committee for Bangladesh Affairs (SCBA).
More than 300 students from over 40 institutions nationwide are expected to join, engaging in debates, discussions, and policy simulations on pressing international issues.
The closing ceremony is scheduled for 19 April at the Senate Building, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Faridul Islam as chief guest. Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Md Farid Uddin Khan (Academic) and Professor Mohammad Main Uddin (Administration) will attend as special guests.
Established in 2013, RUMUNA aims to foster leadership, diplomacy, critical thinking, and global awareness among students. Since hosting its first regional conference in 2015, the organisation has held eight national Model UN conferences.
