Rajshahi University begins four-day model UN conference
The Ninth Model United Nations (MUN) Conference began Thursday at Rajshahi University, uniting delegates from across the country and abroad for four days of debate and diplomacy.
Organised by the Rajshahi University Model United Nations Association, the international event will run until 19 April 2026.
According to organisers, more than 400 delegates from over 50 educational institutions in Bangladesh and abroad are participating. Over 60 secretariat members are supporting the conference in various operational roles.
The theme of this year's conference is 'Establishing Economic Accountability through a Fair Market Policy Framework in the Context of Global Multipolarity'.
Eight committees have been formed for the conference: United Nations Security Council (UNSC), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Fifth Committee of the UN General Assembly (Administrative and Budgetary), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), International Press (IP), and the Special Committee on Bangladesh Affairs (SCBA).
Delegates will discuss contemporary global issues, including market policy, economic accountability, and multilateral frameworks for resource governance.
Each committee agenda is aligned with the central theme to deepen participants' understanding of global affairs, international relations, peace, equality, and justice through debate and collaboration.
Professor Dr Md Main Uddin, Vice-Chancellor (Administration), stated that conferences like this foster students' analytical thinking and leadership skills in international affairs, preparing them to address global challenges.
Professor Md Atiqul Islam of the Department of Economics attended as special guest.
The conference is led by President Shubhrodeb Chakma as secretary-general, with Chayes Talukder serving as deputy secretary-general.
Organisers emphasised that the event is designed to enhance students' knowledge of international affairs and to promote constructive dialogue on global issues. They encouraged all participants to actively engage, contribute ideas, and collaborate throughout the sessions to help advance international understanding and leadership.
