Platform launched to build resilient supply chains
BIDA, Commerce Ministry, ILO, and UNDP launch platform to strengthen supply chains ahead of LDC graduation.
The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the Ministry of Commerce, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have jointly launched the Resilient Supply Chains for Sustainable Trade and Investments Platform at the BIDA auditorium.
The initiative aims to strengthen Bangladesh's trade and investment ecosystem and support sustainable and inclusive growth as the country prepares to graduate from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
Joining the event virtually as chief guest, Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy for International Affairs, said Bangladesh's LDC graduation presents an opportunity to build "a new kind of competitiveness" based on value, skills, quality, and fairness. "This platform connects government, private sector, and partners to shape the next chapter of our economic development, matching growth with dignity and sustainability," he said.
In his opening remarks, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun said, "Let's set a clear roadmap and hold ourselves accountable, so by the end of 2026, we know exactly where we stand. This platform is about real progress, not just conversation."
Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, noted that regulatory reforms and alignment with global standards are underway to prepare for LDC graduation. "Our goal is to create a stronger, more competitive environment for both domestic and cross-border investment, ensuring sustainable growth, and decent work for all," he said.
ILO Bangladesh Country Director, Max Tuñón, highlighted that supply chains "are ultimately about people", stressing the platform's potential to create solutions centred on dignity and opportunity for workers and entrepreneurs.
UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative, Stefan Liller, said the platform will act as a hub for collaboration and knowledge sharing, helping align investments, production, and trade with environmental sustainability and social safeguards.
The ILO and UNDP thanked BIDA and the Commerce Ministry for their partnership and called for wider participation from other UN agencies. They also acknowledged the support of development partners, including Team Europe and Global Affairs Canada.
The platform will facilitate policy dialogue, capacity building, and public–private partnerships to drive supply chain development and policy coherence, supporting Bangladesh's smooth transition from LDC status while promoting labour standards, inclusive growth, and decent work.
