Parisa Nawal named first recipient of BIT’s Anwara Islam Scholarship
Bangladesh International Tutorial (BIT) has named Parisa Nawal as the inaugural recipient of its Anwara Islam Scholarship, awarding her full admission and tuition support for the entire A Level programme.
BIT Board Director Anika Rahman, a lawyer based in the United States, established the scholarship in honour of her grandmother, Anwara Islam, to support exceptional young women based on academic excellence and financial need, according to the press release.
The initiative draws on a family legacy closely tied to BIT's founding. Founder Principal Lubna Choudhury established the institution in 1983 with the support and encouragement of her mother, Anwara Islam, whose enthusiasm for education inspired successive generations.
Building on that founding vision, BIT has grown into an institution that has served generations of students. Anika and her sister, Talita Choudhury, are among the next generation of family members continuing that educational legacy.
The scholarship aims to give a deserving young woman the opportunity to pursue her education without financial barriers while recognising her academic ability and potential.
Alongside full admission and tuition support, Parisa will receive mentoring and guidance from Amani Rahman Creamer to support her university applications and future academic journey.
Amani is a University of Chicago alumna and a recipient of the Augustus Leigh Studentship at King's College, University of Cambridge.
Parisa was selected from among high-achieving female students based on the scholarship's academic and eligibility requirements. She has already begun her A Level studies at BIT and is the first student to hold the title of Anwara Islam Scholar.
Speaking about the initiative, Anika said the scholarship honoured her grandmother's belief in education's transformative power and sought to create opportunities for young women with exceptional potential.
BIT said the scholarship also continued Lubna's educational legacy, whose vision and dedication shaped the institution for more than four decades.
Through the initiative, that legacy is being extended to a new generation, giving talented young women opportunities to pursue their ambitions and contribute meaningfully to society.
BIT congratulated Parisa on becoming the first Anwara Islam Scholar and expressed its commitment to supporting her through this new chapter of her academic journey.
