NU warns of affiliation cancellation for rule-breaking colleges
Professor Dr ASM Amanullah, Vice-Chancellor, National University, has warned that the affiliation of colleges failing to comply with National University conditions will be cancelled, and no objections will be entertained in this regard.
He made the remarks during an exchange of views with principals, teachers, and members of governing bodies of various colleges in Habiganj, at the Habiganj Circuit House.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Vice-Chancellor also visited eight colleges in Bahubal, Nabiganj, and Baniachang upazilas of Habiganj district, where he held discussions with college principals and teachers.
Professor Amanullah said teachers often seek affiliation for subjects of personal preference without considering students' future prospects or the needs of employers, industries, and factories, which he described as undesirable.
He noted that there is a shortage of skilled manpower in professional disciplines such as BBA and CSE, required to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, yet applications for affiliation in these subjects remain limited. He urged colleges to apply for affiliation of new subjects based on future workforce demand.
Expressing dissatisfaction, the Vice-Chancellor said many colleges do not hold regular meetings of their governing bodies, which prevents the identification of problems faced by teachers and students, and delays solutions. The absence of regular meetings, he added, also hinders initiatives to improve facilities and welfare, leading to frustration among teachers and students.
Professor Amanullah said the National University will continue to support colleges in implementing initiatives to improve the quality of higher education, institutional development, and the welfare of teachers and students.
