NSU, Chinese Embassy hold culture night celebrating Bangladesh-China ties
North South University (NSU) hosted the '2026 Chinese Culture Night' on Monday, 2 March 2026, at the NSU plaza, bringing together more than 1,000 guests to celebrate cultural exchange and friendship between Bangladesh and China.
The event was jointly organised by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh and NSU, and co-hosted by the Confucius Institute at North South University and the Bangladesh–China Alumni Association.
The programme featured two thematic segments: a cultural experience titled 'Blessed Horses Welcome Spring' and a culinary exchange under the theme 'Flavours of Ramadan, Shared Understanding'. Through performances, interactive activities, and shared dining, organisers said participants explored Chinese traditions while highlighting values shared by the people of Bangladesh and China.
In welcome remarks, Ma Xiaoyan, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at NSU, said the celebration brought together the Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival, and Ramadan. She wished peace, prosperity, and happiness to both Chinese and Bangladeshi guests.
Liu Yuyin, Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, described the event as a platform for cultural dialogue and reaffirmed China's commitment to deepening bilateral relations and people-to-people ties.
Bobby Hajjaj, State Minister for Education, praised China's progress in education, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and technical and vocational training. He said such cooperation can help equip Bangladeshi youth with skills for global opportunities and expressed hope for continued educational and cultural collaboration.
NSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, said international cultural events on campus help students and faculty experience global cultures. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nasar U Ahmed, said such celebrations strengthen institutional and cultural ties between Bangladesh and China.
Dr Md Shahabul Haque, General Secretary of the Bangladesh–China Alumni Association, described the evening as a celebration of the Chinese New Year and a bridge of friendship between the two nations.
Representatives from the Chinese Embassy, NSU, academic institutions, and alumni associations attended the programme. Organisers said the event underscored the role of cultural diplomacy and educational collaboration in fostering mutual understanding.
