NITER launches inaugural ‘journo fest 25’ to boost media literacy
The National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research (NITER) is set to host its inaugural 'Journo Fest 25', an event designed to promote news readership, media literacy, and creativity among students.
The festival is being organised by the NITER Sangbadik Samiti (NISAS).
Organisers said the initiative aims to provide young participants with a platform to showcase their skills while gaining practical exposure to various branches of journalism.
For students interested in the media, the event is expected to serve as an accessible introduction to real-world journalistic practices.
The festival features three segments: a photography contest, a newspaper olympiad, and an open video contest—reflecting the core pillars of campus journalism: visual storytelling, news comprehension, and reporting.
The photography contest will have two categories: mobile and camera. Only original photographs will be accepted; entries containing text, signatures, or watermarks will be disqualified.
The open video contest will encourage participants to explore social, humanitarian, or creative topics through their own lens.
The newspaper olympiad will test participants' news-reading and analytical skills through a quiz based on ten selected editions of a national daily.
A panel of veteran journalists, academics, and media professionals will judge the submissions. Registration is open and will continue until 1 January 2026.
Organisers said they hope 'Journo Fest 25' will broaden young people's perspectives, strengthen their critical thinking, news sense, and communication skills, and inspire them to explore journalism from a fresh point of view.
