NAGAD pays post office share of revenue for Jan 2024-June 2025
Under the agreement, Nagad Limited covers all operational and technological investments, while the Department of Posts makes no financial contribution to service operations.
The Post Office receives 51% of the revenue, while Nagad retains 49%.
Since launch, Nagad has made several revenue share disbursements to the Post Office, including Tk55,137,558 in May 2024, Tk45,046,647 in 2022, and Tk11,200,000 in 2020.
Following the handover, Kazi Asadul Islam thanked Nagad's management, noting that the company has fostered competition in the financial sector, encouraged cashless transactions, and contributed to the growth of Bangladesh's digital finance ecosystem.
He emphasised that Nagad operates as a service of the Postal Department, and both parties are committed to advancing the platform. He added that annual receipts, currently around Tk130 million to Tk140 million, could increase to Tk1 billion, contributing further to the government exchequer.
Nagad Administrator, Md Motasem Billah, highlighted Nagad's role in integrating marginalised populations into the formal financial system through technology.
He added that Nagad has protected customer interests by driving competition and innovation, while consistently contributing to government revenue.
Since its launch in March 2019, Nagad has gained user trust and reshaped the digital financial landscape by connecting underserved communities to formal services. The platform now processes an average of approximately Tk15 billion in daily transactions.
In addition to innovative services and low cash-out charges, Nagad has been instrumental in the distribution of government funds, including the Family Card programme, education stipends, grants from the Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust, and various social safety-net allowances.
The company is expected to play a further role in future government distributions, such as the Farmer Card programme, and allowances for imams, muezzins, and other subsidies and grants.
