MTB leads Cashless Bangladesh campaign in Bogura

With the aim of advancing the Cashless Bangladesh initiative and promoting digital transactions through Bangla QR, Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB), as the lead bank, successfully organised a two-day seminar, campaign and roadshow entitled 'Cashless Bangladesh' in Bogura.
The programme brought together officials from Bangladesh Bank, acquiring and issuing banks, Visa representatives, merchants and students from various educational institutions.
Speakers noted the Bangladesh Bank Governor's observation that the country spends over Tk20,000 crore annually on cash handling—a cost that can be significantly reduced through the widespread adoption of digital payment systems. They also reiterated the vision of transforming Bangladesh into a zero-cash economy within the next decade.
As part of the campaign, MTB and Visa introduced the country's first Multipurpose Student Card, underscoring their shared commitment to building a smart, cashless and inclusive Bangladesh through active student participation.
The sessions were presided over by Rafeza Akhter Kanta, Director, Payment Systems Department, and inaugurated by Arief Hossain Khan, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director and CEO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, attended as Special Guest, while Sardar Al Emran, Executive Director (Current Charge), Bangladesh Bank, Bogura and Professor Dr Hosne Ara Begum, Chairman, TMSS, were present as distinguished guests.
