MTB Foundation marks Environment Day to promote resilient housing
MTB Foundation recently commemorated World Environment Day 2026 by inaugurating Project "Nobo Neer", a climate-resilient housing initiative in Guthia, Ujirpur, Barishal.
The initiative is part of MTB Foundation's project titled "Climbing for Climate, Building for Communities — A Climate Resilience Initiative of MTB Foundation".
Coastal communities in Barishal, especially Ujirpur, remain highly vulnerable to climate-related impacts such as waterlogging, salinity intrusion and extreme weather conditions.
These challenges repeatedly damage weak housing structures, disrupt livelihoods and increase financial and safety risks for marginalised families.
By constructing climate-resilient houses under Project "Nobo Neer", the MTB Foundation aims to enhance the adaptive capacity of vulnerable households by promoting sustainable housing solutions.
The houses are designed to withstand local environmental challenges and provide safer, more durable shelters for families regularly exposed to climate-induced risks.
The initiative reflects MTB Foundation's objective to support the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and 13, Climate Action.
The inauguration programme was attended by Samia Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of MTB Foundation, and Golam Rabbani and Nazmus Sakib, Associates of MTB Foundation.
