LCOY Bangladesh 2025 concludes with focus on governance and justice

The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Bangladesh 2025 wrapped up on Sunday after two days of discussions, skill-building sessions, and calls for inclusive climate action driven by young people.
The conference opened on Saturday with an inaugural session featuring UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Rana Flowers, BRAC University's C3ER Assistant Director Rowfa Khanom, UNDP Climate Specialist Maliha Muzammil, international YOUNGO representative Alba Peña, and UN Secretary-General's Youth Advisor Farzana Faruk Jhumu. The welcome address was delivered by LCOY Bangladesh National Coordinator and SEECTO Bangladesh Director Mohammad Mahbul Alam Tamim.
Day one included skill labs, panel discussions, and networking activities focused on climate policy influence, online advocacy, and public engagement through storytelling.
On Sunday, sessions highlighted inclusive climate governance and just transition, with speakers stressing accountability, transparency, and citizen participation in policymaking. The closing ceremony celebrated Bangladeshi youth leadership as a driving force in shaping climate governance.
Prof Ainun Nishat, Advisor at C3ER, said Bangladesh's climate policies would only be strong when they connected to the dreams and solutions of youth. Tasafi M Hossain, Founder and Managing Director of Bonhishikha, emphasised that a just future must include the voices of women and marginalised communities.
Naioka Martinez Bäckström, First Secretary (Environment and Climate) at the Embassy of Sweden, said the innovative solutions of Bangladesh's youth could inspire global climate action. Ziaul Haque, Director of Air Quality at the Department of Environment, noted that youth participation was energising adaptation and mitigation efforts.
Khadiza Mustari Mahin, Chair of SEECTO Bangladesh, described youth leadership in the climate movement as not only necessary but revolutionary. Dr Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, stressed the role of universities as hubs for innovation and leadership in tackling climate change.
Organised by SEECTO Bangladesh under the global framework of YOUNGO-the youth constituency of the UNFCCC-the LCOY provides a national platform to amplify youth voices ahead of the global Conference of Youth and COP30.
