IUB hosts RIoT 6th National Creative Challenge
The 6th RIoT National Creative Challenge Award Ceremony was held on January 14, 2025, at the Auditorium of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). Organized by IUB's Center for Industrial Automation Robotics & Internet of Things (RIoT Research Center) and the Taan-Raat Institute of Bangladesh, the event gathered over 1,100 students from 80 schools and colleges, competing in 12 categories.
The ceremony featured Sharmeen S Murshid, Adviser to the Ministries of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Didar A Husain, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, Prof. M. Tamim, Vice Chancellor, IUB, and Antu Kareem, Managing Director of Pentagon Industries Limited and Advisor to the Taan-Raat Institute of Bangladesh.
In her speech, Sharmeen S Murshid emphasized the importance of critical thinking and innovation, encouraging participants to pursue bold ideas. Didar A Husain stressed the need for science and technology in ensuring Bangladesh's global presence, urging students to reach their full potential. Prof. M. Tamim highlighted the value of creating solutions that address the unique challenges of Bangladesh, and Antu Kareem focused on fostering creativity and critical problem-solving in young learners.
The competition featured a variety of categories such as robotics, IT, programming, mechanical innovation, science, and digital poster design. In the senior group, Lia Khan from Uttara High School and College was crowned champion in Mathematics, and Jashnuva Iffat Alam from Uttara Girls High School and College excelled in Biology. In Chemistry and Physics, Jisan Uddin Jihad and Anika Islam, both from Nawab Habibullah Model School and College, secured top positions.
In the junior group, Maisha Sultana from Banani Bidyaniketan School and College stood out in both Mathematics and Biology. Maliha Islam from Monipur High School and College won in Physics, and Alvi Raisha Orthi from Ideal School and College topped Chemistry. Other winners included Iftekhar Mahmud Khan from Narayanganj Ideal School (Robotics Project Showcase), Sara Islam Priya from Viqarunnisa Noon School (Senior Digital Poster Design), and Abdul Majid from Nawab Habibullah Model School and College (Junior Digital Poster Design).
In addition, Wall Magazine and Rubik's Cube competitions saw significant participation, showcasing creative and analytical skills.
The event was facilitated by Dr. Mohammad Faisal Uddin, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and Director of the RIoT Research Center, and Dr. Sadia Binte Alam, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Trustees, faculty members, and special guests toured the project displays, engaging with students and their innovative ideas.
