IDCOL hosts green finance and sustainability talk at NSU

The Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), in collaboration with the Department of Architecture at North South University (NSU), organised a panel discussion titled "Role of Green Finance in Advancing Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development in Bangladesh."
The discussion highlighted the urgent need to address climate change and the critical role of green finance in driving renewable energy projects. Mr Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL underscored the importance of low-interest financing for renewable energy projects, offering rates of 5-7% over 10-20 years, compared to commercial banks' higher rates.
In his keynote presentation, Mr Nazmul Haque, Chief Investment Officer of IDCOL, emphasised the severity of climate change, noting that Bangladesh is among the most vulnerable countries to its impacts. He also outlined IDCOL's initiatives.
Professor Dr Sazzad Hossain, Dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at NSU, stressed the need for energy efficiency in buildings, which account for 56% of Bangladesh's total energy consumption. Professor Nurul Kabir from the Department of Finance highlighted the role of regulatory initiatives.
The panel concluded with actionable recommendations, including strengthening partnerships between NSU and IDCOL, exploring green bonds, and implementing campus-wide energy efficiency measures. IDCOL also announced plans to offer internships and site visits so that NSU students can gain hands-on experience in sustainable projects.
