Grameenphone partners with proton to offer affordable 4g handset
Grameenphone, in partnership with Proton, has launched the GP co-branded Proton Jet 4G Cloud Phone, aiming to expand affordable 4G internet access throughout Bangladesh.
The launch ceremony was held recently at GP House in the presence of Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone, and Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Chairman and CEO of PRAN-RFL Group. Also present were Solaiman Alam, Chief Product Officer of Grameenphone; Dr Asif Naimur Rashid, Chief Business Officer of Grameenphone; and R N Paul, Managing Director of RFL.
The Proton Jet 4G is priced at Tk1,899, according to the companies. The handset features built-in MyGP and a video-calling function via the CloudChat app, compatible with Android and iOS devices. The device is designed to enable users to browse the internet, stay connected, and access digital services.
Grameenphone customers purchasing the handset will receive a one-time 1GB internet pack with seven-day validity. Customers will also be able to purchase a 2GB pack with seven-day validity for Tk24, available once a day for six months. The packs can be activated by dialling *121*1260#, the company stated.
Yasir Azman stated that the initiative aims to make 4G internet more accessible for first-time digital users and help bridge the digital divide.
Ahsan Khan Chowdhury stated that the collaboration seeks to offer affordable digital solutions, particularly for underserved communities.
Grameenphone stated that the launch reflects its focus on expanding connectivity and supporting digital inclusion.
