Emirates skycargo partners with LODD to explore autonomous cargo drones
Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LODD Autonomous to explore next-generation air-cargo solutions, including autonomous drone delivery across its global network.
Under the agreement, both organisations will assess the use of VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft for cargo operations through feasibility studies, regulatory engagement, and live demonstrations.
LODD Autonomous recently carried out a successful test flight of Hili—an unmanned, hybrid heavy-lift cargo aircraft developed and manufactured in Abu Dhabi. Hili can operate fully autonomously from take-off to landing, carry payloads of up to 250 kilogrammes, and fly distances of up to 700 kilometres. Emirates SkyCargo is evaluating the possibility of integrating Hili into its ground fleet to support operations across its dual-airport hub.
Emirates SkyCargo has been expanding its innovation pipeline as part of its long-term strategy to advance the global logistics ecosystem. Earlier this year, the airline launched Emirates Courier Express, a door-to-door delivery service designed to strengthen last-mile logistics.
Abu Dhabi–based LODD Autonomous is recognised for developing next-generation unmanned and autonomous aerial vehicles, supported by AI-driven software aimed at streamlining logistics operations, reducing costs, enhancing sustainability, and improving delivery speed.
