Education event explores future-ready economic reforms for Bangladesh
East Delta University (EDU) hosted its flagship annual event, Econobrium 4.0, on 10 December 2025, under the theme 'Framing the Future – Multisectoral Economic Reforms for a New Bangladesh'.
The programme provided a platform for students, academics, and professionals to discuss policy reforms for sustainable growth, inclusive development, and innovation across key sectors of the economy.
The inaugural ceremony, held from 9:30am to 11:30am, began with the arrival of guests and an introduction to the event's objectives. Speakers emphasised the need to align economic reforms with technological advancement and human capital development to strengthen national resilience and competitiveness.
Tasmeem Chowdhury Bonhi, Assistant Professor of Economics and Convenor of Econobrium 4.0, delivered the welcome address. The keynote speech was presented by Professor Nahid Akhter Jahan of the Institute of Health Economics at the University of Dhaka, who highlighted how strategic policy reforms can support an inclusive and progressive economy.
Special guests Shaing Shaing U Nini, Team Lead at the CHT Development and Research Network (PEACE-MKS), and Mohammad Burhan Uddin Khondker, Vice President and Head of Branch at Bank Asia PLC (Agrabad Branch), spoke about the importance of regional development, private sector innovation, and sustainable financing in shaping Bangladesh's economic future.
A Q&A session followed, allowing students to discuss policy reforms, innovation, and career opportunities with the speakers. Dr Rashed Al Karim, Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Business Administration at EDU, addressed the audience as Adviser to the Organising Committee. Chief Guest Muhammad Sekander Khan, Professorial Fellow and Adviser to the Board of Trustees at EDU, and event chair Professor Mohammed Nazim Uddin, Vice Chancellor of EDU, praised the Department of Economics for organising the initiative. Closing remarks were delivered by Co-convenor Abu M Hanif, Coordinator and Lecturer in the Department of Economics.
The programme continued with an Innovative Expo from 11:30am to 3:30pm at the Interaction Zone and first floor, where students showcased project work and research-based ideas demonstrating innovation and entrepreneurship.
A cultural carnival was held later at the amphitheatre, featuring performances by DECON students, followed by a photo session with the Dean, organising team, and volunteers. The day concluded with an alumni meetup, bringing together current and former students.
Econobrium 4.0 underscored EDU's commitment to nurturing critical thinkers and future leaders by bringing academia, industry, and the wider community together to explore pathways towards a more sustainable and forward-looking Bangladesh.
