EBL and Danish Embassy unite for climate action

The Embassy of Denmark in Dhaka has partnered with Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) to launch the 'EBL Climate Change Action Award,' aimed at fostering climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts in Bangladesh.

The partnership was formalised today at the Embassy of Denmark in Dhaka through a Joint Declaration of Intent signed by Danish Ambassador H.E. Christian Brix Møller and EBL Additional Managing Director Ahmed Shaheen.

H.E. Christian Brix Møller expressed Denmark's longstanding commitment to climate action, stating, "We are proud to collaborate with EBL to honour those pioneering sustainable, climate-friendly solutions. The private sector is essential in scaling up climate initiatives, and this award will amplify the importance of collective action."

Ahmed Shaheen, EBL's Additional Managing Director, echoed these sentiments, describing the partnership as a pivotal moment. He said, "The collaboration with Denmark will elevate our Climate Change Action Award to international standards. We aim to inspire and mobilise stakeholders across sectors to contribute meaningfully to combating climate change."

The award will recognise excellence across diverse sectors tackling Bangladesh's climate challenges. Winners will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges, comprising experts from academia, civil society, media, and representatives from international partners such as the U.S., German, and Danish embassies in Dhaka.

The EBL Climate Change Action Award 2024 nomination process will be publicised soon through various media and EBL's official channels.

This marks EBL's third collaboration for the award initiative, following earlier partnerships with the U.S. Department of State and the German Embassy. The award, presented annually, seeks to celebrate corporations, NGOs, manufacturers, and climate activists demonstrating leadership in sustainable practices and climate resilience.
