Earth’s Ants honoured with Green Apple Environment Award in London
Earth's Ants has been awarded the Green Apple Environment Award 2025, becoming the first Bangladeshi organisation to receive the prestigious international honour.
The Green Apple Environment Award, established in 1994 by The Green Organisation, recognises organisations that demonstrate excellence in sustainability, innovation and measurable positive environmental impact.
The award ceremony was held on 17 November 2025 at the House of Lords, Palace of Westminster in London. Winners were selected from more than 700 global entries and recognised for outstanding environmental best practices. The event brought together environmental leaders, experts and award recipients from around the world.
Founded by Md Mirajul Islam, Earth's Ants is a youth-led environmental organisation that has grown from a small initiative into a national platform through research-based action, education programmes, community projects, strategic partnerships and environmental psychology workshops. The organisation focuses on promoting environmental literacy, sustainable practices, and leadership among young people across Bangladesh.
Reflecting on the achievement, Md Mirajul Islam, founder and chief executive officer of Earth's Ants, said the award represented the collective efforts of young people committed to environmental change.
'This recognition reflects the belief that meaningful environmental change can begin locally and reach the global stage. It is a proud moment for Bangladesh and for every young person working towards a sustainable future,' he said.
Earth's Ants was selected from a highly competitive pool of global nominations for its innovative approach to environmental stewardship and its commitment to developing sustainable solutions to pressing ecological challenges.
Rafi Ahamed, treasurer of Earth's Ants, said the recognition highlights Bangladesh's growing presence in global environmental action.
'As the first Bangladeshi organisation to receive this honour, Earth's Ants is proud to represent the country's commitment to environmental responsibility on the global stage,' he said.
Organisers said the award reflects the collective efforts of the organisation's team and wider community in driving positive environmental change.
