At the first hour of 21 February, a DIU delegation led by Professor Dr Mohammed Masum Iqbal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, placed a floral wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar. Participants observed a moment of silence in memory of the language martyrs.
Later in the morning, another wreath was placed at DIU's Shaheed Minar on campus, led by Professor Dr Sheikh Md Al-Ayeary, Proctor, with teachers, students, and officials present. A one-minute silence was observed before the wreath-laying, according to DIU.
In a statement, the university highlighted the significance of the Language Movement and urged students and staff to practise, use, and preserve Bangla correctly. DIU also noted that 21 February is globally observed as International Mother Language Day in recognition of the sacrifices made for the mother tongue.
