DAE, Syngenta launch nationwide campaign on safe pesticide use
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and Syngenta Bangladesh Limited have launched a nationwide campaign to promote the safe and responsible use of crop protection products.
Implemented through a public-private partnership, the initiative aims to protect farmers' health, improve food safety and encourage sustainable agricultural practices, according to a press release.
As part of the campaign, durable acrylic boards displaying the "5 Golden Rules" for the safe use of crop protection products are being installed at DAE offices across Bangladesh.

The boards have already been installed at nine of the DAE's 14 regional offices, with the remaining five regions expected to be covered by the end of the year.
The five rules advise users to handle and apply crop protection products cautiously; read and follow product-label instructions before use; maintain personal hygiene during and after application; inspect and maintain spraying equipment regularly; and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Agricultural experts say responsible use of crop protection products is essential to minimise health and environmental risks, ensure effective crop protection and improve productivity.
The initiative also reflects Syngenta's global commitment, "Higher Yields, Lower Impact", which promotes farming practices that increase production while conserving natural resources and protecting people and the environment.
DAE Director General Md Abdur Rahim said, "We are committed to promoting the safe and judicious use of crop protection products as part of sustainable agricultural development.
"By combining DAE's nationwide extension network with Syngenta Bangladesh's stewardship expertise, this initiative will help raise awareness among farmers and regulators, reduce the excessive use of pesticides, and contribute to safe food production and environmental protection."
Although crop protection products play a critical role in protecting crops from pests and diseases, experts say their benefits depend on responsible use.
Proper handling can safeguard farmers and the environment while supporting the production of safe, high-quality food.
Syngenta Bangladesh Managing Director Hedayet Ullah said, "This initiative reflects our shared responsibility to protect farmers, consumers, dealers, retailers and the environment.
"By bringing these safety messages to DAE offices across the country, we are reinforcing responsible product stewardship and helping farmers adopt safer practices that contribute to sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems."
Officials from both organisations said the initiative could pave the way for broader collaboration on farmer training, stewardship programmes and sustainable crop management, and they invited farmers, regulators and other stakeholders to join future efforts.
They said such cooperation would further support Bangladesh's efforts to develop a safer, more productive and more sustainable agricultural sector and strengthen national food security.
