Community Bank appoints Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin managing director
Community Bank Bangladesh PLC has appointed Mohammed Emtiaz Uddin as managing director, who formally assumed office on Monday (3 August).
On his first day in office, the bank's directors, senior management, executives and employees welcomed him and extended their congratulations, according to a press release.
Emtiaz is an accomplished banking professional with more than 25 years of experience in retail banking, SME and agriculture banking, corporate banking, transaction banking, credit risk management and branch banking.
He has demonstrated expertise in strategic business leadership, balance sheet optimisation, sustainable business growth, customer relationship management, risk governance, operational excellence and organisational transformation throughout his career.
Before joining Community Bank, Emtiaz served as deputy managing director and chief business officer of Padma Bank PLC, which he joined on 3 March 2023.
During his tenure, he revitalised the bank's operations, strengthened customer relationships, enhanced productivity and implemented strategic initiatives to achieve sustainable growth.
He later assumed the additional responsibilities of chief recovery officer and chief anti-money-laundering compliance officer, leading recovery management, regulatory compliance and governance.
Before joining Padma Bank, Emtiaz served as head of retail banking, head of SME and agriculture banking and head of corporate banking at Premier Bank PLC.
Earlier in his career, he held key leadership and management positions at Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh, HSBC Bangladesh, Eastern Bank PLC and Dhaka Bank PLC.
In those roles, he contributed to business development, relationship management, credit risk, retail and corporate banking, SME and agriculture banking and branch operations.
Emtiaz obtained his Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) and Master of Social Science degrees in Economics from the University of Chittagong, and later earned a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from the Asian University of Bangladesh.
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Emtiaz has been actively involved in developing Bangladesh's banking community.
He served as founder senior vice-president of the Bankers' Club of Bangladesh Limited. He was subsequently elected president of the organisation, reflecting his commitment to professional excellence, leadership development and collaboration within the banking sector.
A firm believer in continuous learning, Emtiaz has participated in numerous executive leadership programmes, professional development courses, workshops and international seminars in Bangladesh and abroad.
These programmes have further strengthened his expertise in banking, leadership, governance and strategic management.
Welcoming the new managing director, the board of directors expressed confidence that Community Bank would strengthen its position as a modern, customer-centric, technology-driven and cashless financial institution under Emtiaz's leadership.
The bank expects to accelerate sustainable business growth, enhance operational excellence, reinforce sound governance and risk management, expand digital banking initiatives and create long-term value for its customers, shareholders and other stakeholders.
