BUP hosts disaster management drill to boost urban resilience

The closing ceremony of the 'Disaster Management Exercise (DMX) 4.0' was held on 25 September 2025 at the Bijoy Auditorium, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).
The event, titled 'Earthquake in Bangladesh: Strengthening Urban Preparedness', was organised by the Department of Disaster Management and Resilience (DMR).
The two-day exercise was designed to raise awareness of how to strengthen urban preparedness against earthquakes through the proper use of structural and non-structural methods, as well as the enhancement of early warning systems and disaster preparedness planning. Eighteen teams from seven universities across Bangladesh actively participated in the sessions, which included panel discussions, poster exhibitions, and a table-top exercise (TTX) aimed at generating new ideas and solutions for strengthening urban preparedness.
The closing ceremony was graced by Major General Md Mahbub-ul Alam, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, MPhil, PhD, Vice Chancellor (VC) of BUP, as Chief Guest.
The VC emphasised the importance of disaster management education in building a resilient nation and highlighted the role of universities in preparing future leaders to address such challenges.
Certificates and prizes were awarded to the winning teams in recognition of their innovative ideas and presentations.
Among others, BUP senior officials, faculty members, students, invited guests, and disaster management experts were present at the programme.
