BUFT commemorates July Movement martyr Selim Talukder

The BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) organised a special discussion and prayer gathering on August 21, 2025, at its auditorium to honour the memory of Shaheed Md. Selim Talukder, a BUFT alumnus and martyr of the July Movement of 2024.
The day began with a visit to the newly inaugurated memorial plaque. Attendees then attended the formal opening of the Shaheed Selim Talukder Central Library. Guests also viewed a photo exhibition. The photos highlighted moments from his life, legacy, and the July Movement.
The auditorium programme opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran and the National Anthem. Attendees observed a one-minute silence for the martyrs. Organisers screened a documentary on the contribution of private universities to the July Movement. Professor Dr Engineer Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor of BUFT, delivered a welcome address. Another documentary dedicated to Selim's life and sacrifice was also shown.
Shaheed Selim's father, Md Sultan Talukder, attended as the honoured guest. Family members, alumni, faculty, and July Movement participants—including injured activists—gave tributes. They remembered Selim's sacrifice and urged society to carry forward his vision for justice and equality.
The event concluded as organisers presented gifts and led a prayer session. BUFT's treasurer, registrar, deans, faculty, staff, students, and well-wishers attended to honour Selim's legacy.
