BRAC Bank and BNFD launch sewing training centre to empower 100 hearing-impaired women

BRAC Bank, in partnership with the Bangladesh National Federation of the Deaf (BNFD), has launched a dedicated training centre to empower 100 women with hearing and speech impairment by equipping them with sewing and tailoring skills by the end of 2025.

The agreement was signed on 30 June 2025 at BNFD's Bijoynagar premises in Dhaka by Ekram Kabir, Head of Communication at BRAC Bank, and Md. Mosharrof Hossain, Administrator of BNFD. This initiative is part of BRAC Bank's flagship CSR programme, Aporajeyo Ami, which seeks to bring lasting change through skill development.

The sewing training centre will offer vocational training tailored specifically to the needs of these women. Upon successful completion, each trainee will receive a sewing machine to establish home-based enterprises or seek formal employment, thus opening pathways to economic independence and social inclusion.

Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO (Current Charge) of BRAC Bank, reflected, "True financial inclusion must extend to those most often excluded. Through this partnership, we ensure that members of the deaf community are not only equipped and empowered but also engaged as architects of their own futures."

Md. Mosharrof Hossain expressed, "This collaboration equips our community members with practical skills and the means to earn a living. BRAC Bank's support strengthens our ability to uplift the hearing impaired community through sustainable initiatives, underscoring a shared commitment to inclusion and long-term empowerment."

Both organisations anticipate this programme will create valuable opportunities for skilled women with hearing and speech impairment to enter the ready-made garment (RMG) industry, fostering broader economic participation.

The 'Aporajeyo Ami' initiative stands as a testament to BRAC Bank's unwavering dedication to social welfare and the pursuit of a more inclusive society. Guided by its core values, BRAC Bank continues to champion CSR efforts that break financial barriers and social taboos, creating space for individuals to realise their fullest potential and lead lives of dignity and purpose.
