BPDB chairman inaugurates engineers association
The ability of an organisation to move forward depends on remaining steadfast to a noble purpose, and no situation should be allowed to distract it from that goal, Chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Engineer Md Rezaul Karim (Grade-1) said on Monday.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the BPDB Engineers Association, held at the Mukti Hall of Bidyut Bhaban.
The BPDB chairman said an organisation acted as the custodian and driving force of an institution. Personal growth, knowledge and professional dignity strengthened an organisation, while narrow self-interest weakened it. He added that a collective mindset of healthy progress alongside others helped an organisation become iconic.
Md Rezaul Karim said BPDB was now in a much better position compared to when many of its current officials joined the organisation, expressing optimism that it would continue to improve further in the future. He welcomed and wished success to the newly launched BPDB Engineers Association.
Special guest Member (Generation) Engineer Md Jahurul Islam said organisations often deteriorated due to business or personal interests, a reality he had witnessed through long involvement with various associations. He stressed that demands raised by engineers must be logical and justified, adding that engineers needed to be more diligent and committed.
Another special guest, Member (Company Affairs) Engineer ANM Obaidullah, said BPDB was a long-established and heritage institution, noting that he had seen many promising associations fade away due to lack of competence. He said an active organisation provided an appropriate platform to articulate institutional issues.
Member (Distribution) Engineer Md Abdul Basid said the emergence of the BPDB Engineers Association had created a unique platform to raise issues related to professional protection and rights of BPDB engineers.
Presiding over the programme, Chief Engineer (Distribution – South) Md Kamal Uddin Ahmed said there was no alternative to the BPDB Engineers Association in highlighting flawed policies in the power sector. He added that future leadership of the association would rest with those who truly upheld BPDB's values.
Delivering the welcome address, Director of IPP Cell-2 and Member Secretary of the Constitution Committee of the BPDB Engineers Association Engineer AKM Mohiuddin Azmi said the association would work for BPDB's interests as a non-partisan, neutral and inclusive organisation.
At the event, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Water and Power Engineers Association Engineer Md Shahedul Azim Sajal, keynote paper presenter Deputy Director (Design-2) Engineer Md Sahedur Rahman Sumon, Executive Engineer SM Sanjad Lumen, and engineers from different batches of BPDB also spoke.
At the inaugural ceremony, a 34-member convening committee of the BPDB Engineers Association was formed, with Chief Engineer Md Aslam Uddin as convener, Director of IPP Cell-2 Engineer AKM Mohiuddin Azmi as member secretary, Executive Engineer Md Toufiqul Rahman as treasurer, and Executive Engineer Tanvir Ahmed as office secretary.
