Book launch: ‘Ekattorer Etikotha’ tells story of Liberation
A book launch and unveiling ceremony of "Ekatto rer Itikotha", written by Bir Muktijoddha Waliul Islam, was held at the head office of Social Marketing Company (SMC) on 18 April 2026 at 4pm.
The author, Waliul Islam, is a former secretary to the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He has long administrative experience and has served in various important roles in government.
The event was attended by academics, researchers, journalists and distinguished guests from different sectors. The book was published by Mawla Brothers.
Renowned academic Professor Dr Serajul Islam Choudhury attended the programme as chief discussant. In his speech, he said the Liberation War was not only a political struggle, but also a major transformation in people's thoughts, consciousness and way of life. He said "Ekatto rer Itikotha" is an important document of lived experience that will help readers better understand history.
Special guest Professor Dr Abul Kashem Chowdhury said such autobiographical works add a new dimension to historical studies. He said the author's administrative experience and direct involvement during the Liberation War had made the book more meaningful and valuable.
Founder trustee of the Liberation War Museum Mofidul Hoque said books like this are essential for preserving the documented history of the Liberation War. He added that the combination of personal experience, administrative realities and socio-political context made the book important for research.
Editor of The Daily Prothom Alo Matiur Rahman said such books play an important role in presenting the true history of the Liberation War to the younger generation. He noted that the book is not just a memoir, but a realistic account of the struggle for independence.
Women's rights activist Shireen Parveen Haque said the Liberation War was not only political, but also a fight for human and social liberation. She said the book connects the new generation with history and promotes human values.
Former secretary to the government and former chairman of SMC and SMC EL Muhammed Ali said the book is an important addition to Liberation War literature and research. He appreciated the author's long career, role during the war and contributions to the nation.
Former secretary and former chairman of SMC and SMC EL Siddiqur Rahman Choudhury said the book presents a clear picture of the turbulent period of 1971, including political change and the struggle for independence, combining personal experience with administrative insight.
SMC member Dr Md Khairul Islam said such books not only preserve history, but also inspire patriotism and awareness among future generations. He added that the book provides a detailed understanding of the socio-political context of the Liberation War.
In his speech, Waliul Islam said the book reflects his personal experiences, memories and the realities of that time. He said he had tried to highlight the administrative challenges, political uncertainties and the struggles of ordinary people during the Liberation War.
Among others present at the event were Chairman of SMC and SMC EL Faruque Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of SMC Toslim Uddin Khan, Managing Director of SMC EL Sayef Nasir, along with other distinguished guests and senior officials of SMC and SMC EL.
The programme ended with a book introduction, discussion, reading from the book and a photo session.
