BCIC Chairman calls for efficient fertiliser distribution in Faridpur

A discussion meeting on "Efficient Fertiliser Distribution" was held in Faridpur with local fertiliser dealers and agriculture officials, aiming to enhance the delivery and proper use of fertiliser at the grassroots level.
Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) Chairman and Additional Secretary Md Fazlur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest. Organised by the Bangladesh Fertilizer Association, Faridpur District Branch, the meeting focused on strengthening fertiliser distribution, boosting domestic production, and reducing reliance on imports.
During his address, the BCIC chairman directed concerned authorities to begin construction of a new 10,000 MT capacity buffer warehouse within a month to support improved fertiliser logistics in the district. He also emphasised establishing more local fertiliser factories to save valuable foreign currency.
Recognising Faridpur's diverse agriculture—particularly jute and onion cultivation—he assured that fertiliser supply would be maintained at optimal levels. He urged farmers to avoid overuse of fertilisers, stressing that excess application does not guarantee better yields.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Sohrab Hossain presided over the event. Other speakers included BCIC Director (Commercial) and Joint Secretary Md Moniruzzaman, Director (Planning & Implementation) Md Delwar Hossain, Senior General Manager (Marketing), the district's Additional Superintendent of Police, Deputy Director of Agricultural Extension, and the UNO of Sadar upazila.
The meeting was attended by senior BCIC officials, UNOs, agriculture officers from all nine upazilas of Faridpur, and local fertiliser dealers.
The BCIC chairman instructed local administrations to closely monitor fertiliser distribution and prevent any artificial crisis. Earlier in the day, he visited the proposed buffer warehouse site and inspected the existing warehouse's storage and supply systems. He recommended prompt repair of the access road and signed the inspection logbook.
