Banglar pathshala, MTB launch global lecture series

Banglar Pathshala Foundation and Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) inaugurated the virtual International Lecture Series 14: Individual Well-being and Social Welfare (IWSW) on September 6, 2025, with participants from 16 countries.
The six-month, 13-session programme is inspired by Nobel laureate Professor Amartya Sen's capability approach and social choice theory. With Professor Sen as chief guest, the inaugural session underscored that development is not just about income or happiness, but about empowering people to live lives they value—defining true progress.
Professor Sabina Alkire (University of Oxford) delivered the keynote on capability and Gross National Happiness, while Professor Rehman Sobhan chaired the session. Distinguished discussants highlighted multidimensional poverty, justice, environment, and inclusion in South Asia.
Ahmed Javed Chowdhury, founder of Banglar Pathshala Foundation, stated, "This study circle is not just academic—it is a global knowledge exchange platform designed to rethink and advance well-being and social welfare today."
Over the next six months, the series will feature lectures from eminent scholars, including Professor Prasanta K. Pattanaik (University of California, Riverside).
