Bangladesh High Commissioner presents credentials to Botswana President
Bangladesh High Commissioner to South Africa Shah Ahmed Shafi, who is concurrently accredited to Botswana, presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Duma Gideon Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana, at a ceremony held today.
Following the presentation, the High Commissioner held a one-on-one meeting with President Boko, during which the Botswana President praised Bangladesh's impressive progress across various development sectors. He noted that a 25-member delegation from Botswana's agriculture and livestock sector recently visited Bangladesh to gain insights into its best practices and agricultural innovations.
President Boko expressed his government's interest in seeking Bangladesh's technical assistance to enhance Botswana's agriculture sector and proposed exploring joint venture opportunities for future cooperation. He also conveyed his country's keen interest in importing high-quality Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals to meet Botswana's healthcare needs.
Earlier, on 17 November 2025, the High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on Botswana's Minister of International Affairs, where both sides discussed potential collaboration in textiles and garments, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and allied industries.
In both meetings, High Commissioner Shafi highlighted the vast potential for bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Botswana in agriculture, food security, livestock, textiles and pharmaceuticals. He extended a formal invitation to the Botswana President to visit Bangladesh in 2026, accompanied by a high-level business delegation.
The Bangladesh High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with Botswana across trade, investment, agriculture and the pharmaceutical industry, in line with Bangladesh's broader policy of expanding engagement with African nations.
