Bangladesh Bridge Authority signs deal with Omera Renewable Energy

The Bangladesh Bridge Authority and Omera Renewable Energy Limited have signed an agreement to install solar systems at the service areas of the Padma Bridge. Chief Engineer Kazi Md Ferdous signed on behalf of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, while Mr Masudur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, signed on behalf of Omera Renewable Energy Limited.
The agreement was signed under the directives of Muhammad Faozul Kabir Khan, honourable adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. Following his guidance, a feasibility study was conducted by the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) to assess the potential for rooftop solar power generation at the bridge's service areas.
According to the study, Service Area 1 has a power generation capacity of 1,966 kWp, Service Area 2 has 2,948 kWp, and Service Area 3 has 1,119 kWp, totalling 6,033 kWp. The contract amounts to Tk23,58,87,067.50 and is scheduled for completion within six months, by 14 March 2026. Senior officials from the Bridge Division and the Bangladesh Bridge Authority were also present at the signing ceremony.
In line with the Bangladesh Renewable Energy Policy 2025, the government aims to meet 20 per cent of total electricity demand from renewable sources by 2030 and 30 per cent by 2040. The Power Division has formulated the National Rooftop Solar Programme to enhance energy security and promote renewable energy. Under this programme, the installation of solar systems at the Padma Bridge service areas will use a net metering system, allowing electricity bills to be adjusted and resulting in cost savings.
