Atish Dipankar University holds convocation in Dhaka
The convocation of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology was held on Saturday, 6 December 2025, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. Professor Dr S M A Faiz, chair of the University Grants Commission (UGC), attended as chief guest.
Former state minister for education Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan delivered the convocation speech. Special guest Professor Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain, UGC member, also addressed the ceremony. Chair of the Board of Trustees, M Shamsul Alam Liton, and vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam also spoke. Parents, academics, writers, journalists, trustee board members and distinguished guests were present.
Chief guest Professor Dr S M A Faiz congratulated the graduates, stating: "You are the architects of a new Bangladesh. Through your sacrifices in the July movement, we achieved a renewed Bangladesh." He emphasised that a university must enrich knowledge and innovation, and called on teachers and students to work together to advance this mission.
Convocation speaker Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan told the graduates: "You have earned your honours degree through years of effort and dedication. But this is not the end — it is the beginning. You are stepping into a world that is more dynamic and fast-changing than ever. Your success will depend on continuous effort, hard work, resilience and adaptability."
Special guest Professor Dr Mohammad Anwar Hossain said the university must reflect the legacy of the great eleventh-century Bengali scholar Atish Dipankar and help to build citizens fit for a prosperous future Bangladesh. He emphasised the need for curricula capable of addressing 21st-century challenges.
Chair of the Board of Trustees, Shamsul Alam Liton, congratulated the graduates, calling it a day of honour and pride. He said the reality of 4 million highly educated unemployed youth in the country cannot be ignored, which is why the university has prioritised quality, modern education and special skills development. He noted that the Skills Development Institute (SDI) has been established to provide practical competencies, digital skills and vocational experience. "Our purpose is clear — investing in youth. Investment in education is the key driver of their progress and the country's prosperity," he said.
On behalf of the chancellor, the UGC chair awarded graduation and master's degrees, and conferred 27 special awards, including six Chancellor's Awards, five Board of Trustees Chair's Awards and 16 Vice-Chancellor's Awards. Certificates and medals were handed to the awardees. A total of 2,326 students received graduation degrees at this convocation.
The programme concluded with a cultural performance and a special laser show.
