Amit and Justin secure victory in Collegiate Chess League

IUB chess players Amit Bikram Roy (Computer Science and Engineering) and Justin Matthias (General Management) achieved a significant victory in the Team battle of the summer Season Collegiate League.

The competition is sponsored by the leading online chess platform Chess.com and Sig. This prestigious tournament brought together 46 universities worldwide, making it a highly competitive event.

The competition took place from August 3 to 5, 2024. In a thrilling final round, the IUB team emerged victorious against Masaryk University (Czech Republic). Before this, they secured hard-fought wins over the University of Bath (UK) in the semifinals and Stevens Institute of Technology (USA) in the quarterfinals.

The duo's success can be partially credited to the mentorship of Grandmaster Niaz Murshed, the first Grandmaster of South Asia and an advisor of the IUB Chess Club.
