AIUB hosts career talk on storytelling in the digital age

The AIUB Department of Media and Mass Communication hosted a talk, "Facts and Fictions: Building a Career in the Storytelling Age," on Sunday, 7 September 2025, at the campus Media Studio.
The session featured three speakers, all alumni of the MMC department: Saila Shikder Reya, Visualiser and AI Specialist at Animation Monster Studio; Maurium Sultana, Journalist at BBC News Bangla; and Samiul Islam Joy, Multimedia Journalist at ETV.
Maurium Sultana described her path to becoming a BBC journalist and emphasized the importance of students mastering a range of software tools. Her key takeaway was that adaptability with digital skills is essential to succeed in modern storytelling.
Saila Shikder Reya emphasised that success in animation requires strong drawing and editing skills. Her main message cautioned against becoming overly reliant on artificial intelligence, as it may limit personal creativity and innovation.
Samiul Islam Joy advised students to actively participate in class activities and assignments, as these form the foundation for learning. He emphasised that striking a balance between theory and practice can mitigate professional challenges.
The event was moderated by Ms Afroja Shoma, Assistant Professor in the MMC department. The welcome address was delivered by Ms Rani Ellen V Ramos, Lecturer in the department.
The programme concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where faculty, students, and alumni exchanged insights with the speakers. The event fostered meaningful connections and inspired participants to pursue storytelling careers with creativity and resilience.
