AIUB clinch third place in National Basketball Championship
The Bangladesh National Basketball Championship 2025 concluded with a notable milestone for American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB), as the team secured a bronze medal in their debut on the national stage.
This year's championship featured 12 teams divided into four groups, with group stage matches held in Jashore. The participating teams were: AIUB, BRAC University, BKSP, Jahangirnagar University, Daffodil International University, BUET, Chattogram DSA, Jashore DSA, Rajshahi DSA, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force. The tournament showcased some of the finest basketball talent in the country.
AIUB advanced to the final round in Chattogram, where only six teams qualified: AIUB, Daffodil International University, Chattogram DSA, Rajshahi DSA, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force. Every match in the final round was closely contested. Bangladesh Navy secured the top spot, while AIUB and Bangladesh Air Force finished level on points for second place. Based on the head-to-head result, Bangladesh Air Force progressed to the final, with AIUB taking third place.
Earning the bronze medal in such a competitive field—and in their debut appearance—marks a significant achievement for AIUB. The team displayed discipline, character and steady improvement throughout the tournament.
Following the championship, the AIUB Basketball Team presented the trophy to Dr Hasanul A Hasan, Founder Member of the Board of Trustees, in the presence of Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, Member of the Board of Trustees; Ms Shania Abedin, Member of the Board of Trustees; Prof Dr Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor; Prof Dr Md Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor; Prof Dr Manzur H Khan, Proctor; Major (Retd) Faiz-Ul-Bari Rajon, Deputy Director (Administration); and Md Joynal Abedin, Coordinator, Office of Sports. They congratulated the team on their dedication and resilience and reaffirmed AIUB's commitment to supporting excellence in both academic and extracurricular pursuits.
