Tk2,015 crore proposed for Law and Justice Division
The adviser also proposed Tk47 crore for the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has proposed allocating Tk2,015 crore for the Law and Justice Division for fiscal year 2025-2026, which is Tk93 crore higher than the allocation in the revised budget in FY 2024-2025.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presented the new budget in a televised speech today (2 June).
The finance adviser, in his budget speech, also proposed Tk47 crore for the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division for the FY 2025-26.

"Thirteen monitoring committees comprising 13 judges of the High Court Division have been formed to supervise the subordinate courts across the country for the improvement of the judicial system. As a result, the rate of disposal of cases in the subordinate courts has increased," said the adviser.
He noted that the Supreme Court Judicial Appointment Ordinance, 2025 has been promulgated for appointment of qualified judges by making the process of appointment transparent, neutral and accountable.
"Land has already been acquired for setting up an international standard judicial academy. Through this academy, modern and befitting training will be provided to the judges, and the relevant officials of the Supreme Court and the subordinate courts to enhance their efficiency," Salehuddin said.
He added that a significant number of criminal cases filed from 1 July to 5 August 2024, to suppress the Revolution, have already been withdrawn.
"False and fabricated cases filed under the Anti Terrorism Act and the Cyber Security Act are being identified and withdrawn. To ensure exemplary punishment of the people involved in the crimes committed during the July Mass Uprising, the International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024 has been promulgated by the government in consultation with the stakeholders to align it with the Rome Statute and other relevant international laws. Through the ordinance, the trial process of crimes against humanity committed in the country during the July Mass Uprising has been started following international standards," he further said.
Meanwhile, Tk250 crore was proposed for the Supreme Court in the budget for FY 2025-2026, which was Tk252 core in the revised budget of the outgoing fiscal.
