Govt plans to simplify share transfers, profit repatriation to boost foreign investor confidence
Investments of up to Tk1 crore would no longer require a valuation report, while profit repatriation for deals worth up to Tk100 crore could be allowed without prior approval from Bangladesh Bank.
The government is planning a series of measures aimed at boosting foreign investor confidence, improving the ease of doing business and accelerating banking services in the upcoming FY2026-27 budget.
Under the proposed measures, the transfer of shares in unlisted companies and the repatriation of capital are set to be made easier.
Investments of up to Tk1 crore would no longer require a valuation report, while profit repatriation for deals worth up to Tk100 crore could be allowed without prior approval from Bangladesh Bank.
The government is also expected to introduce the use of licensed valuation firms for larger transactions to ensure a more transparent and impartial assessment of share values.
In a bid to reduce costs and processing times in foreign trade, the budget may announce a gradual relaxation of the mandatory use of letters of credit (LCs) for trusted importers and low-risk goods.
To facilitate faster digital transactions, plans are under consideration to integrate Bangladesh Bank's real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system with banks, mobile financial service providers, payment service providers and other relevant platforms.
This would enable instant settlement of transactions across the financial ecosystem.
The budget may also include the launch of an e-Loan scheme, allowing fully digital loans of up to Tk50,000 with a repayment period of up to 12 months.
The initiative is expected to improve access to small-scale credit and promote greater financial inclusion.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is set to unveil his maiden national budget for FY27 in parliament this afternoon (11 June).
The proposed budget is expected to have a total outlay of Tk9.38 lakh crore, making it the largest national budget in Bangladesh's history.
