Budget reflects no specific provisions to save lives, livelihoods: Jatiya Mukti Council
Leaders of Jatiya Mukti Council on Friday, criticised the national budget proposed for fiscal year 2021-22, saying the budget has no specific provisions for saving lives and livelihoods during the coronavirus pandemic.
The government placed this budget only for the welfare of businesses, not for people, they said.
They made these remarks at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in the capital.

Faiezul Hakim, secretary of Jatiya Mukti Council presided over the programme. Among others, Kazi Iqbal, general secretary of Bangladesh Lekhak Shibir, Delwar Hossain, leader of Bangladesh Trade Union Federation, and Mitu Sarkar, president of the Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, spoke at the event.
"The incumbent government elected in the unfair election of 2018 has no accountability to the people of the country. We have to pressure them and ensure a people oriented government, said Faiezul Hakim.
He also urged the government to ensure Covid-19 vaccines for all citizens above 18 years of age by this year, and to take action against officials found responsible for the delay of vaccine supply in the country.
Delwar Hossain said the government confirmed no allocations to save workers, farmers, and the public in the proposed budget.
A procession was also brought out after the demonstration.
